For the price I don't think you can get a better Samurai sword. Normally I collect fantasy swords or medieval time swords but I do have a few katana's and this one is great. While its not my best one for the price, its of great quality. It is sharp so it should not be played with as someone can get seriously injured but that should be common knowledge when dealing with swords. And this is a real sword.

This is my seventh samurai sword that I have purchased over the past 25 years. I must say that I was very impressed with the overall quality of this sword. It has a great feel of balance and strength and looks like a sword that you might otherwise pay around $800. I was very impressed by the quality of this katana when I pulled it out of the box. The blade was well made and came with a certificate of authenticity that detailed the basic qualities of the sword as a whole. I wouldn't say it was razor sharp but it was sharp enough to do the basic cut tests, in which it held as expected for it's particular price. The artwork on the handle is well crafted and gives it it's own unique look which I personally like. I would say it's better than average for its price, so if you want a better sword you'll need to pay more.

The only thing I don't like is that I didn't have the money to get two of them! I love this sword. I wish I could now get a wakisashi (whatever) to go with it. I was apprehensive before purchasing a product from Cold Steel for the first time but they did not disappoint. This sword is solid, heavy, and EXTREMELY sharp. The blade is more than a quarter inch thick for virtually the entire length of the blade. Given the price, I was a bit skeptical, but was surprised that the quality was awesome. Good weight and balance. Very sharp. Some reviews have complained that it is made in China, but the Chinese have been making swords for over 2000 years. This is a Ten Ryu katana. One of the better low price swords, since a real Japanese katana would cost between $5000 and $50,000. Dual mekugi pegs add strength so there is no looseness between the nakago and ho. The hamon doesn't appear to be etched. I did however replace the saya with a leather wrapped one that I can wear over my shoulder.

I was looking for a solid, practical sword for self defense purposes. After scouring Amazon, this is where I decided to take my chances. I am VERY pleased! This sword is definitely well made. beautiful sword. was NOT customized as per my request(they could have just said no, i still would have bought it), but whatever, i'll just buy more swords(probably not from this seller, tho). it is still a fine addition to my collection. on par with other swords in this price range, but barely. hamon appears to be real, as far as i can tell. beautiful, shiny finish, almost flawless. unique saya and tsuba. i got the sword in the pics and i am happy with it. it makes a LOUD chopping noise, which is very cool, but i think i would have preferred it without bo-hi, as i am more interested in devastating damage than sounding cool. i do not think this one will be getting much use in the bamboo grove.

This is a sturdy katana, thicker than most blades used for tatami cutting. It is alo heavier and takes some practice to get used to, but when you are used to it, it slices through tatami mats like it is air! Very happy with it, so far no bend in it, while thinner blade katanas in use need work when hitting tatami the wrong way.

One of the strongest blades I won that isn't truly Damascus steel, but is very close to the strength of such. This blade has a good weight to it, which makes it very easy to cut through many things given it has a sharp edge, which mine does. This is a pretty nice sword however for the money there are better swords. When i received mine i saw on the blade that it appeared to have 2 hamons... yeah one was much more prominent than the other and its hardly noticeable and blade also looks scratchy. the tsuka was very nice and all the fittings were nice. All in all this is a good buy, you will be satisfied

This sword came just as shown, and is in top quality. There is but one minor complaint, but it doesn't affect the product in any way: There is a slight flaw where the cord wraps around the saya, and a small scratch going up an inch along the saya, from that point. Again, it's nothing to worry about. Overall, I'm very satisfied with my purchase, and I will buy from the seller again, if I see another sword I like.

OK, so its not a real, folded steel samurai sword. Those cost thousands, and you get what you pay for, however, compare the price to an $85 Ka-bar, and you begin to see how reasonably priced this sword is. The quality and craftsmanship of this sword is easily comparable to any mid-range, mass-produced combat knife made by companies like Ka-bar or Ontario. this is a great looking sword and based on the sword alone it was good. Mine got damaged in shipping because the box it was shipped in was too small, so the hilt end is "rubbed" and the blade is very difficult to get out of the scabbard. I hope that they can fix this for me. If they can, then i'd change this to a 5 star. :)

This Cold Steel Warrior Katana is better than expected. I have had the sword for two weeks now.The sword arrived with some dirt on it that wiped off easily. I agree with other reviewers that this katana is blade heavy making quick recovery during forms more than a bit difficult. The blade is sharp enough to catch on a thumb nail when scraping over the nail to check sharpness but not shaving sharp. The katana cuts completely through water bottles better than many of the videos depict on You Tube.

Full tang Authentic everything including beautiful hamon! I would recommend this blade to anyone looking for a cheap but well made and truly battle ready. I have put this blade through hell and back and it still looks amazing. However I have polished and sharpened along the way I have had this blade for about a year now and it is my favorite. This blade could match just about anything you see a warrior class cold steel katana do. the only thing better than this blade is one that has been deferentially hardened for authenticity but as durability is concerned for most people mono steel is fine, when made of high carbon steel.

I have a black belt in kenjutsu (Kuki Shinden-Ryu Happo Bikenjutsu) and this is one of my favorite swords. Given the price, I was a bit skeptical, but was surprised that the quality was awesome. Good weight and balance. Very sharp. Some reviews have complained that it is made in China, but the Chinese have been making swords for over 2000 years. This is a Ten Ryu katana. One of the better low price swords, since a real Japanese katana would cost between $5000 and $50,000. Dual mekugi pegs add strength so there is no looseness between the nakago and ho. The hamon doesn't appear to be etched. I did however replace the saya with a leather wrapped one that I can wear over my shoulder.

Purchased this Katana for my son. I am not terribly familiar with Japanese swords but am very happy with my purchase. The sword arrived significantly before the expected delivery date and was in perfect condition. Unpacked, the sword is contained in a decorative cloth bag with a gold cord with tassels. The wooden sheath is high gloss black with some decorative accents and very nice in appearance and quality. The Katana itself to me seems to be very well made with a sharp edge. Taking off the protective plastic sleeve and removing the factory oil protectant reveals a beautiful dark reddish/brown hue. I am extremely pleased with the Katana and sure my son will be thrilled. 100% satisfied.

Alright.. As a outdoor survivalist/hunter I've had the pleasure of trying many different kinds of blades of all kinds. This particular sword has impressed alot so far. The wrapping is tight, the blade is sharp and the quality of steel is outstanding. My first attempt at a cut was a milk jug I had filled with water... Thinking I needed a fast strong cut I swung fairly hard only to think I had missed. The blade cut so smooth through the bottle (starting at the handle) I didn't even feel it connect with the bottle. Not sure if its luck but the first cut I did left no water on the blade, I thought that was pretty cool. I've handled many katanas and blades and ill tell you this one has an intimidation factor. Even if you are familiar with swords be mindful this one has a slightly different shape than traditional katanas. This is NOT A TOY. I'm very pleased and recommend this for collectors and someone looking for a SOLID beginner battle ready weapon. After several tests with meat/bone believe this to be an excellent choice for defense. I live in the mountains where there are wolves and mountain lions and I feel confident this would put an aggressive animal down easily. The handling is a bit blade heavy but the handle is long enough to have a comfortable swing with alot of blade side leverage to cleave with ease. Again, highly recommended.

Delivery was a bit quicker than expected. Sword is fairly sharp. Solid brass pommel can be unscrewed. Mine came without any looseness or rattles. Beautiful blade. The first thing I did when i got it was a paper test, after i wiped off all the oil/wax it was coated in for storage/shipping. it cut well, then reoiled it. There was a few scuffs on the blade up near the point but they didn't really concern me, I took off the handle to see the full tang, and getting the bamboo pegs out was sort of a difficult task for the first time, they were in there tight, and getting the handle away from the tsuba was very hard because of how tight it is, (same goes for putting it back on). all in all, a very well made sword, beautifully decorated tsuba, i looked at a lot of different functional swords 200 dollars and less before I decided on this one, and I'm happy I did. even with the scuffs, I still look forward to getting a display stand and displaying this thing. There is a tiny dent on the front tsuba guard, (the piece between the tsuba and the blade that can't even be removed (at least I couldn't)) however it's so small it's hardly noticable unless the light hits it just right, so it doesn't bother me.

This sword is a beautiful sword, and such a bargain. The Tsuba (hand guard) is absolutely gorgeous, the pommel is secured tightly, and the sword is extremely well balanced. I haven't tested this sword yet, but it seem like the craftsmanship is very nice and durable for intermediate price tag. This Cold Steel Warrior Katana is better than expected. I have had the sword for two weeks now.The sword arrived with some dirt on it that wiped off easily. I agree with other reviewers that this katana is blade heavy making quick recovery during forms more than a bit difficult. The blade is sharp enough to catch on a thumb nail when scraping over the nail to check sharpness but not shaving sharp. The katana cuts completely through water bottles better than many of the videos depict on You Tube.

One of the strongest blades I won that isn't truly Damascus steel, but is very close to the strength of such. This blade has a good weight to it, which makes it very easy to cut through many things given it has a sharp edge, which mine does. The design and construction are marvelous and I would definitely give this blade some consideration if you are looking for a good sword.

The blade fits tightly in the scabbard, no rattle, the fittings appear to be a non-magnetic alloy (blackened brass, perhaps), but everything from the sword collar and hand guard down through the handle is solid, maybe a touch overbuilt as far as thickness, but the fullers, or grooves (which are also well carved/executed), help its balance and make it sing. The handle wrapping is done in the proper alternating pattern, something all to rare in budget katana-style swords; the scabbard also has an alloy end cap, reinforcing the 'yanone' or arrowhead theme of the sword's fittings. The polish is satin and plain, good for hiding scratches from fibrous cutting media, and the long tip is counterpolished. Overall, a good choice for someone's 'first' or 'only' katana, or as a user/spare/surrogate for a more expensive or cherished blade.

For the price I don't think you can get a better Samurai sword. Normally I collect fantasy swords or medieval time swords but I do have a few katana's and this one is great. While its not my best one for the price, its of great quality. It is sharp so it should not be played with as someone can get seriously injured but that should be common knowledge when dealing with swords. And this is a real sword.

I received my Katana about an hour ago. I couldn't be more pleased. It is beautiful! It came well packaged and in perfect condition. It exceeded my every expectation. I have read in reviews of other sword makers how the blade arrived scratched and/or the parts of the Katana were loose. Not with this one! It is a solid weapon. And I do mean weapon. I test the sharpness of my knives by pushing them through thin paper, not slicing, pushing. If they go through the paper without drag, they are sharp. My Katana went through the paper like it wasn't there right out of the box. The fabricators were very confident that I would be happy with their Katana before I received it. Now I know why. I'm not an expert on Katanas, but I have done a lot of reading. I believe the steel was really folded and the Hamon is real. The blade came wrapped coated in oil and wrapped in plastic to protect the Saya from the oil. Even the bag, though not the one pictured, is beautiful. I would recommend this to anyone and I am considering buying another.

The only thing I don't like is that I didn't have the money to get two of them! I love this sword. I wish I could now get a wakisashi (whatever) to go with it. I've bought a lot of swords from various sources and have always found myself left wanting. Finally that's not the case. I'm only giving this thing five stars because that's all there is. It should actually have seven. If you're thinking of a good sword, real sword, but don't have the funds of Bill Gates this is the one. BUY IT!

Swordaxe was great! We got the shipment which came with oil for the sword, well due to packaging it leaked and there was no more oil to clean the weapon. This is a sturdy katana, thicker than most blades used for tatami cutting. It is alo heavier and takes some practice to get used to, but when you are used to it, it slices through tatami mats like it is air! Very happy with it, so far no bend in it, while thinner blade katanas in use need work when hitting tatami the wrong way.

I was looking for a solid, practical sword for self defense purposes. After scouring Amazon, this is where I decided to take my chances. I am VERY pleased! This sword is definitely well made. I have no doubt it will hold up if and when I need to fully utilize it's potential. Solidly sharp edge out of the box. A little heavier than I had expected, but this is my first katana. The balance is slightly forward, but has a fantastic overall feel and great look. For the price, I couldn't be happier! I have full confidence this is capable of taking an intruders arm clean off.

The blade on this thing is incredibly sharp. The overall quality is very good, although it seems a bit blade heavy and unbalanced. I bought this as an offhand practice weapon for my girlfriend so we could practice. It's great with the longer Cold Steel Polypropylene samurai sword, or as a stand alone weapon, due to it's shortness. Would highly recommend to anyone looking to train without using actual blades.

I love this weapon. It maybe lighter than wood, but it is far more durable. I also like its lightness because it can used with speed. I plan to get a second one to have a matching pair. I have 2 Wooden Wakazashi Bokken and 1 Wooden Tanto Bokken, and all three are stored because they get chipped and start to split. I will only use Cold Steel Trainers from now on. The Cold Steel trainers don't have the distracting vibration that wood creates hitting a target. Lastly, a well placed strike with a Cold Steel trainer can be just as brutal as a Wooden Bokken strike.

This is an awesome weapon. Yes, weapon. This is not a toy or a show piece. This Katana came very sharp and battle ready. A few passes in my ceramic sharpener and it is razor sharp. The details, from the braided silk over sting ray skin hilt to the carbon steel blade are impressive. And I paid about half the price listed on the "Cold Steel" site. Bottom line... If you want a heavy sword that is a SWORD you can't beat this blade.
